Aly Sullivan, on herself and her work: My name is Alexandra Sullivan. I am a 16 year old junior at Tamiscal High School. I live in Mill Valley, California and spend quite a bit of time in the lovely city of San Francisco. Over the summer, I was lucky enough to be accepted to and attend the San Francisco Art Institute’s PreCollege program. I was able to live in the SFAI dorms, attend amazing classes including Black and White analog photography and experimental cinema, and meet the most incredible artists. While there, I created a short film for my experimental cinema class that I am very proud of that I would like to share.
My short film was shot on 16mm black and white reversal film, using a Bolex Rex (amazing piece of equipment that was kindly rented to me by SFAI). The film, “Every Night”, was made as my final project for the class. Being an experimental piece, it is highly concept-based. My goal for the film was to convey the idea of restless sleeping, however there are many other underlying themes that I chose to leave a mystery, for the viewer to interpret in their own way.
